With economic pains from the recent recession still lingering andtax season around the corner, Corporate Voices for Working Families held awebinar on Tuesday, March 2 to educate employers on how their employees canaccess much-needed tax credits and other benefits.
John Wilcox, Deputy Director at Corporate Voices, gave an overview of CorporateVoices' recently released Employer Guide: Educate Your Employees About the Benefits They've Earned. Thisis the seventh year that Corporate Voices has updated the Employer Guide, whichprovides detailed information about the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child TaxCredit, Medicaid, and other state and local benefits.
We were happy to have the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, andmany employers from the Northern Kentucky areajoin the webinar.
A main emphasis of the discuss was that sharing information on how to accessbenefits with employees makes good business sense, not just good social sense.By encouraging employees to take advantage of benefits they've earned, employers are building worker loyalty and morale, which translates into higherproductivity and retention.
The Employer Guide includes the following tools:
- Information on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Advance EITC, the Child Tax Credit, Medicaid/State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) centers.
- Tips on how employers can talk to employees about tax credits and other benefits.
- Step-by-step instructions on how to enroll employees in Advanced EITC.
- Guidelines to help employees avoid predatory tax-preparation practices.
