Employers need more skilled talent than they can find even during this season of high unemployment. This gap in supply and demand for talent is a growing crisis for American businesses and our economy. To overcome this challenge and sustain future economic growth, public policy must encourage and support employers in developing new talent pipelines.
Year Up--a model for new pipelines--has built an enterprising pathway that crosses the divide between employers' needs for talent and young adults' untapped contributions. This briefing will provide Members of Congress and their staff with solutions that deliver documented results for business and young adults. Rather than eliminate funding, Congress must take a hard look at workforce development programs, set guidelines to encourage true innovation and measurable results, and fund only those programs that demonstrate results.
Please join us to learn more about the solutions corporate partners and Year Up have built. We will provide highlights of the model with a panel discussion highlighting how business, community and individuals all benefit. Participants include:
- Tom Ryan, Chairman, CVS Caremark Corporation, who will share insights on the CVS partnership with Year Up, as well as other enterprising pathways CVS uses to develop new talent;
- Mark Elliott, President, Economic Mobility Corporation, who will release findings from a new study documenting a 30% increase in earning power through this enterprising pathway; and,
- Tiffany Cummings, Junior Staff Analyst, UBS Investments, a Year Up alumni who will share how her experience launched her into the mainstream economy.
Senator Michael Bennet (CO) and Representative David Cicilline (RI), our Congressional sponsors, will attend to introduce our panel discussion. We hope you can join us for this informative session on a critical issue.
